Ascorbic acid or vitamin C is a water — soluble vitamin contained in products of vegetable origin of importance for the functioning of the human body.
The use of ascorbic acid increases the body's resistance to infections.
Ascorbic acid is not formed in the human body, and comes only with food. Involved in the regulation of redox processes, carbohydrate metabolism, blood coagulation, tissue regeneration; increases the body's resistance to infections, reduces vascular permeability, reduces the need for vitamins B1, B2, A, E, folic acid, Pantothenic acid.
Has strong antioxidant properties.
Improves bile secretion, restores exocrine function of the pancreas and endocrine – thyroid.
Indications ascorbic acid:
- Avitaminosis C (scurvy) and hypovitaminosis C — prevention and treatment.
- Bleeding (nasal, pulmonary, hepatic, uterine, etc.). Hemorrhagic stroke. Hemorrhagic diathesis. Kapilliarotoxicos. Vasculitis (in combination with rutin).
- Intoxication. Prolonged use of antibiotics, salicylates, corticosteroids, anti-tuberculosis drugs and the derivatives of GINK, anti-malarial drugs.
- Infectious disease.
Alcohol and infectious delirium.
- Post-transfusion complications.
- Diseases of the gastrointestinal tract (Akhil; gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer, especially after a bleeding; enteritis, colitis, enterocolitis, helminthiasis).
- Liver disease (Botkin's disease, chronic hepatitis and cirrhosis of the liver). Cholecystitis.
- Adrenal insufficiency (Addison's disease).
- Acute radiation sickness.
- Hemosiderosis, geoderma, melasma, erythroderma, psoriasis, eczema, neurodermatitis, pemphigus, dermatitis Duhring, strophulus, urticaria, porphyria, skin, infectious diseases of the skin.
- Weak healing wounds, ulcers, bone fractures, dystrophy.
- Increased physical load, mental overload.
- Pregnancy and lactation. Nephropathy pregnant.
As an antioxidant, ascorbic acid is used in atherosclerosis, bronchial asthma, diffuse connective tissue diseases (rheumatoid arthritis, scleroderma, systemic lupus erythematosus).

Application: inside. Dosages are given in terms of ascorbic acid.
Adult preventive 50-100 mg/day, children 25 mg/day.
Adults with a medical purpose - 50-100 3-5 times a day, children - 50-100 mg 2-3 times a day.
During pregnancy and lactation - 300 mg/day for 15 days, then 100 mg/day.
In patients with increased iron content in the body should be used ascorbic acid in minimal doses.
Contraindications: hypersensitivity, children's age (up to 3 years).
With caution. Diabetes, the deficit glukozo-6-fosfatdegidrogenaza; for use in high doses, hemochromatosis, sideroblastnaya anaemia, thalassemia, hyperoxaluria, nefrourolitiaz.
Side effects: allergic reactions, irritation of the mucous membrane of the gastrointestinal tract (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, spasm of the gastrointestinal tract; inhibition of the function of the insular apparatus of the pancreas (hyperglycemia, glycosuria); when used in high doses – hyperoxaluria and nephrocalcinosis (calcium oxalate).
Overdose: Symptoms: long-term use of large doses (over 1 g) – headache, increased CNS excitability, insomnia, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, hyperacid gastritis, ulcerative of gastrointestinal mucosa, inhibition of the function of the insular apparatus of the pancreas (hyperglycemia, glycosuria), hyperoxaluria, nephrolithiasis (calcium oxalate), damage to the glomerular apparatus of the kidneys, moderate pollakiuria (when receiving a dose exceeding 600 mg/day). Individual intolerance to ascorbic acid.
